Feather and Silence: Oil on Board of a Nature Morte
Oil on Board by Fortuni, Nature Morte
A finely executed 19th-century oil on board depicting a trompe l’œil nature morte scene of a game bird suspended by a string from a moss-covered branch, surrounded by verdant foliage. The naturalistic rendering and attention to detail, including the delicate play of light on feathers and bark, reflect the influence of the European still-life tradition. Signed “Fortunio” lower right, this work belongs to the circle of artists who specialized in small-format game paintings popular in the late 18th and 19th centuries. Presented in its original dark molded wood frame, which shows age-appropriate wear consistent with its history.
