This rare set of two early 20th-century carnival or funhouse mirrors originates from Coney Island, a historic hub of amusement and spectacle. Standing 72 inches high, these vintage glass mirrors were crafted using a now-lost technique. A clear glass sheet was coated on the back with a reflective metal, typically silver, to create the mirrored surface. Slight heating allowed for the formation of exaggerated curves, though this process was risky due to the fragility of the glass. The distorted mirror sheets were then mounted onto robust wooden frames designed to preserve their whimsical shapes. These mirrors, once a staple of classic funhouses, are a unique relic of amusement park history and an eye-catching addition to any collection.
