Exquisite Java Peacock Taxidermy: A Majestic Display of Rarity and Elegance

This impressive taxidermy specimen of a Java Peacock, more accurately known as the Green Peafowl (Pavo muticus), a species native to Southeast Asia and historically found on the island of Java. Prized for its exceptionally long, iridescent train and vivid coloration, the green peafowl is distinguished from the more common Indian peafowl by its sleeker form, metallic green and blue plumage, and scaled feather patterning across the neck and body.

Mounted on an elegant oval wooden base, the bird stands approximately 6 feet tall, with meticulously preserved plumage displaying rich tones of emerald green, cobalt blue, black, and white. The tail is detachable, allowing for flexible display and ease of placement. Such large-scale peacock mounts were particularly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when exotic taxidermy specimens were collected for grand interiors, winter gardens, and curiosity cabinets.

Today, this rare and visually commanding example offers both historical interest and dramatic decorative presence, well suited for a library, entry hall, or curated interior seeking a touch of natural history and Old World elegance.
