Pair of Art Nouveau Wood & Repoussé Copper Iris Vases w/ Original Metal Inserts
Pair of Art Nouveau Wood and Copper Floral Vases, France or Belgium, circa 1895–1910. Each tall, tapering wooden vase is clad on all sides with hand-worked repoussé copper panels depicting stylized iris flowers and elongated leaves, a quintessential Art Nouveau motif celebrating organic form and natural movement. The floral decoration is executed in high relief with sinuous stems and flowing contours, contrasting richly with the warm-toned wood structure beneath.
The copper panels are secured with visible rivets and retain a deep, naturally aged patina. Each vase retains its original fitted metal insert, indicating their intended use as vases rather than purely sculptural objects. Light wear to the wood and gentle oxidation to the copper are consistent with age. Likely produced by a French or Belgian Art Nouveau workshop influenced by the Nancy School, this sculptural and uncommon pair exemplifies the period’s unity of form, material, and function.
