Pair of 19th-Century Black Forest Carved Wood Game Bird Trophy Plaques
Pair of Black Forest Carved-Game Trophy Plaques, late 19th Century
Superbly hand-carved in deep relief, each oval plaque presents a freshly taken game-bird—a woodcock on one, a partridge on the other—shown hanging head-down by a plaited cord from a small gilt-brass tack, the wings splayed to reveal painstakingly modeled flight and covert feathers. The birds project from the smooth, polished ground, creating a striking trompe-l’œil effect characteristic of Swiss/German Black Forest hunting décor. Dimensions (each): 16 in H × 14½ in W × 3 in D (approx. 41 × 37 × 8 cm). A finely crafted duo that brings 19th-century sporting charm to study, library, or game room.
