Pair of 19th-C French Gilt Bronze Candlesticks w/ Grape and Vine Decoration

Pair of 19th-century French gilt bronze candlesticks, France, mid-19th century (circa 1840–1870), Louis-Philippe to Second Empire period. Each raised on a broad circular base richly decorated in relief with grape clusters and scrolling vine leaves, symbolizing abundance and hospitality. The baluster-form stems are finely articulated with knopped and turned elements, embellished with beaded collars, engine-turned borders, and chased geometric ornament. The drip pans and upper sections are edged with repeating leaf motifs, reflecting the high quality of Parisian decorative bronze work of the period.

Executed in cast and hand-chased gilt bronze, likely retaining original mercury fire-gilding, with a warm surface tone and light wear consistent with age. Minor rubbing and surface patina are present, with no apparent repairs. A well-matched and decorative pair, characteristic of mid-19th-century French table bronzes inspired by classical and naturalistic vineyard motifs.
