Gilded Brass and Agate Table Lamp, Willy Daro, circa 1970
Willy DARO (20th Century), table lamp in gilded brass with a rectilinear base inset with a natural agate slice, surmounted by a cream silk rectangular shade edged in brass, and stamped Lucifer. Designed circa 1970, this piece exemplifies Daro’s distinctive synthesis of modernist geometry and organic ornament, a hallmark of his Brussels atelier active from the 1960s to the 1980s. His lamps and sculptural furnishings, often incorporating semi-precious stones and natural forms, were retailed through leading international decorators such as Maison Jansen and remain sought after for their refined glamour and unique dialogue between nature and design.
