Fragment of a Bronze Arm: Mounted Green-Patinated Bronze Sculpture
Fragment of a Bronze Arm
Mounted Green-Patinated Bronze Sculpture
A Grand Tour–style early 20th-century fragment of a bronze arm, this evocative sculptural remnant captures a lifelike limb bent elegantly at the elbow and culminating in an expressive, subtly articulated hand poised in a gesture of offering or invocation. Cast in green-patinated bronze that has mellowed with age, the fragment retains a classical sensibility—its smooth modeling and balanced proportions suggesting it once belonged to a larger figure, perhaps allegorical or mythological. Now elevated on a custom metal mount set into a black wooden base, the arm assumes a new, self-contained presence, its dynamic contour and tactile surface inviting close study. Both archaeological in spirit and modern in presentation, the piece stands as a meditation on form, gesture, and the enduring beauty of incomplete antiquity.
